What are the legal requirements for a Czech Student Visa?

For stays over 90 days, you must possess comprehensive health insurance. The policy must cover preventive care, dispensary care, diagnostics, and emergency treatment, with a minimum coverage limit of €400,000 per insured event. Crucially, the policy must have no deductible, meaning the insurance company pays 100% of the coverage from the very first CZK.

Is the PVZP monopoly still active?

No, the monopoly was officially abolished by the Czech Parliament on September 20, 2023. Students are free to choose insurance from any authorized commercial provider in the Czech Republic (including Maxima, Slavia, Ergo, Uniqa, and PVZP), provided it meets the €400,000 limit and comprehensive standard. Do EU students need to buy commercial insurance?

If you are an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen and hold a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you generally do not need to buy private commercial insurance for visa purposes. You can register your EHIC card with a Czech public insurance provider (like VZP) upon arrival to get access to necessary healthcare. However, EHIC does not cover repatriation of remains or third-party liability, so some students buy additional basic cover.

How do I submit my insurance to the embassy or foreign police?

Once your purchase is processed, we dispatch the contract, payment confirmation, and a certified Czech translation of your insurance policy via email. You print these files and present them at the Czech embassy (for visa collection) or upload/present them directly to the Foreign Police/OAMP office within 3 days of entering Czechia.
